Profile of our Nazarene LINKS Missionaries Dave and Betsy Scott

Dave and Betsy are beginning their work in Croatia as team leaders of a cross-cultural studies group from Nazarene Theological Seminary as well as relaunch the work of the Church of the Nazarene again in this country. Dave grew up just outside of Boston, MA on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College. Six hours away from Boston is Upstate, NY where Betsy grew up. Dave and Betsy met at ENC and got married 3 years after graduating.

They feel blessed to have had good solid Christian upbringings. They were very involved in Nazarene churches since birth and were shaped from a young age by missions trips they went on, where God planted in them a desire to minister in an international context. Both of them feel grateful for the amazing leaders and sense of support they had from the church community that mentored and guided them to be the people they are today.

At ENC, Dave graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in History, and Betsy graduated with a BA in Business Administration/Accounting with a minor in French. After living and working in the Boston area and doing ministry at Wollaston Church of the Nazarene for years, God grabbed a hold of their hearts and called them to Seminary. So they sold all of their belongings and moved across the country to Pasadena, CA to attend Fuller Theological Seminary.

Dave and Betsy worked while attending Seminary; Dave as the coffee shop manager at the seminary and Betsy in Finance at a government contracting firm. They both graduated from Fuller in 2007 with Masters Degrees in Theology. Dave’s concentration was intercultural studies and the post-modern church while Betsy’s concentration was primarily Pastoral Counseling, but she also filled her course work up with Women’s and Family Therapy studies. Dave and Betsy also lived intentionally in a community for 4 years at Fuller and during this time started a “non-traditional” church. It was a place for people to be known and know others; actively being Christ in their communities and learning to live for each other. It was an amazing time of growth and transformation for them both. It was while they lived in this community that they had their son, Jacob (JJ), who is now 4 years old.

Betsy and Dave adore being parents, have fun traveling the world with Jacob, and feel blessed to have an adventurer for a son. In their downtime, Betsy loves card and board games, knitting, and movies while Dave is an avid reader, basketball player and biker, and will watch movies and play games when Betsy forces him to! They both love to: explore cities, build relationships and community wherever they go, extend hospitality, and try new foods.
